This past weekend I was thrilled to attend the first annual Beach Polo Classic at Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Despite my dad growing up in Rhode Island and our entire extended family celebrating Thanksgiving in Providence every year, I hadn’t been to Watch Hill in over ten years and completely fell in love with this charming seaside town. It’s hard for me to justify stopping anywhere in Rhode Island or Massachusetts when we’re en route to Nantucket, but this was a great reminder of how many beautiful places we’ve yet to explore just a couple hours from where we call home. Will and I are both looking forward to many more mini road trips in the next several years so if you have any favorite spots in upstate Connecticut, Rhode Island, or along the Cape, do share!
Will and I went up on Saturday in time to road trip to Newport for dinner at Clarke Cooke House with Amy and Lauren. The two of them attended our wedding last weekend so it was fun to relive all our favorite moments over a glass of rosé — we kept joking that this weekend getaway was our “mini moon” with friends before we leave for our honeymoon this week. We stayed at Watch Hill Inn in a gorgeous room overlooking the bay — I would totally recommend it as a centrally located spot that’s walking distance to coffee, shopping, and just down the hill from Ocean House.
On Sunday, we ate brunch at Ocean House and headed down to the beach for the Harvard vs. Yale polo match. The match was the brainchild of our friend Sean and was so beautifully orchestrated you’d have no idea it was the inaugural event! We spent most of the afternoon under the Lilly Pulitzer cabana with blogger friends new and old. I got to hang with Carly and her photographer Carter for the third time in one week (thanks, fashion week!) and finally got to meet Abby, whose Instagram I’ve been stalking for years now (she is somehow even lovelier in person!). The whole weekend was such a fun send-off to summer and I can’t wait to make this match an annual September tradition.
P.S. I wore this Lilly Pulitzer dress and am so obsessed with the metallic gold trim. I wish I’d had it to wear to one of our wedding festivities! I recommend ordering a size down as it’s quite roomy on top.
P.P.S. Amy took my camera around and snapped a few street style photos that I couldn’t resist sharing! People watching is half the fun at polo. 🙂 For those who asked on Instagram, this is the camera I use and this is the lens I had on for these pictures (though Will just gave me this one for my birthday to shoot interiors and landscapes in time for our trip to Africa!).
