I’m my happiest self when I’m on (or in) the water. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Nantucket, Naples, Connecticut, or Cabo — if there’s an ocean nearby, I’m good to go.
We decided to book a sunset sailboat ride on our last night in Cabo (through a company appropriately named Cabo Adventures) and it wound up being quite the adventure indeed. The sail started out calmly with a cruise by Cabo’s famous arch and picked up in time for us to see several whales frolicking farther from the coast (picture below!).
After the sun set, however, the captain was having some trouble turning the boat back towards the harbor and we spent an hour heading in the wrong direction with waves crashing over the front of the boat right where Ali, Patrick, Will, and I were sitting. There was one point where the four of us had to lay down for the sail to swing to the other side and the whole boat turned at least 45 degrees toward the water. We were holding on (to the boat and to our cameras, phones, and each other) for dear life.
But the second the boat righted itself we started laughing uncontrollably. Naturally it was the one aspect of the trip that I planned and it somehow became a near death experience. We kept joking that we’d cheated death — and really, how many people can say that about their New Year’s Eve?! It was a totally ridiculous experience and one that we’ll be talking about for many New Year’s Eves to come. 🙂
P.S. This swingy striped sweatshirt is oversized and officially one of the comfiest items of clothing I own.
