I’m going to attempt to get back to regularly scheduled programming today despite the fact that nothing about life feels “regular” right now. Our renovations are very likely to be delayed by town hall closing and the inspector not being able to come out, so we’re bummed that the crew we’ve grown to love will be unable to work for some time and wondering how long we’re going to be without a kitchen and a downstairs bathroom. (Twelve weeks felt doable, but an indefinite amount of time is a little more daunting!) We’re grateful to have my parents and their functioning kitchen just down the street and restaurants in our town still open for takeout, but we’re in the same boat as the rest of you and feeling all kinds of anxious, overwhelmed, and restless. Turning to my own list of ways to stay busy while social distancing to keep my mind occupied until there’s something more we can do! I hope you and your families are all healthy and hunkered down and in the mean time, if I can provide a little visual escape for you and a mental escape for me, that’s what I’ll do!
So here’s what I’ve come up with so far for the powder room we’re building off the kitchen. I’m going to order a bunch of wallpaper samples to give myself something to play around with the next few weeks — I’m leaning towards a bright blue grasscloth but maybe I should do a fun print? I’d love to hear if you have any favorites!
Similar to the powder room above, I’ve ordered this Ballard Designs mirror that I’ve been eyeing forever. I love that it will add some texture to this small space and pop against whichever wallpaper we choose!
I’ve also ordered two of these polished nickel sconces for either side of the mirror. I love the lines and think I might swap out the shades for a more custom look!
We’ve ordered this Kohler vanity with polished nickel hardware and think it will tie in nicely with the style of the cabinets in the kitchen. I love the look of a pedestal sink (would have loved to do something like this!) but I think we’ll be really happy to have the storage for toilet paper and cleaning supplies.
There are seemingly hundreds of little decisions to make during a renovation and I was seriously surprised by how many options there are for powder room and kitchen faucets! We wound up with this spout and these levers for the powder room and I think they’re a nice fit for our old house.
And we also ordered this toilet — maybe not the most exciting detail to most of you but some people have requested specifics as they start their own reno projects!
Of course it will depend on the wallpaper we wind up with, but I think my beloved Nantucket matchbook prints would be darling over the toilet! We did something similar with watercolor prints in our Nantucket powder room and they make me so happy.
Again this will depend on the color scheme we choose, but I can’t wait to order appliqué monogram hand towels as a finishing touch! Love love love.
I think that’s it for now! Who knows when this will all get finished but decorating is definitely a happy distraction right now!
