GRANDY’S SURPRISE PARTY!

This past weekend my siblings, cousins, and I pulled off a pretty epic surprise party for my Grandy’s 90th birthday. We invited thirty of her closest friends on the island and had them huddled in my parents’ living room when she walked in with my cousin and her fiancé (under the guise of inspecting the new wallpaper I ordered for two of the bathrooms). The look on her face when she saw so many of her friends and family members was priceless and a moment I’ll never forget. My sister Reilly deserves a medal for all the coordination it took to get so many of her friends in one place at one time!

I ordered custom cups that read “party like it’s 1927” (again my brilliant sister’s idea!) which inspired Grandy to break into her best Charleston at one point! I ordered them from foryourparty.com but I’d love to hear your go-to spots for custom party goods as I’m on the lookout for all kinds of things for our upcoming wedding!

Everyone pitched in with various hors d’oeuvres (Ali’s guacamole was a fan favorite) and Will and Ali’s husband Patrick manned the backyard bar for most of the evening. We’ll be having our welcome party here in less than two months and I loved getting a sneak peek of how the party will look!

I got to chat with so many of Grandy’s friends from her 65 (!) years of summering on Nantucket (read our family’s history on Nantucket here!). Grandy plays such a prominent role in my life and it was so touching to see how many other people have felt the same for so many years. My cousin Emily arranged for her to cut her birthday cake with the sword she and my late grandfather used to cut their wedding cake (which Will and I will also use in September!) but easily the best part of the night was when she couldn’t seem to blow out the last candle on her cake so she just put it out with her fingers. ? Seriously, you’d be hard pressed to find any 90-year-old with half as much spunk and zest for life! I just hope we all look half as good at her age. I couldn’t love her more!

Many, many, many thanks to my bestie/bridesmaid/current housemate Ali for these darling pictures which my family and I will treasure forever!

I am so obsessed with Grandy’s friend’s Nantucket lightship clutch (similar), which she made herself! #goals.

P.S. I’m wearing these flower earrings, this navy sweater, this striped maxi skirt (sold out, similar), and these espadrilles.
