NANTUCKET CHURCH TOWER CLIMB

On Friday, my dad and I took Teddy and Peter into town to check off something that’s been on my Nantucket bucket list for a couple summers now: climbing the bell tower at the First Congregational Church on Center Street for sweeping views of the island in all four directions. It’s not always easy to find out their hours online (currently Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but I’d check the signage out front before making any plans as we’ve found it’s subject to frequent change!) but I’m so glad we finally made it happen. The church volunteers both downstairs and at the top of the bell tower were so lovely and the outing was an excellent way to tucker Teddy out before his afternoon nap (he’s obsessed with going up and down stairs right now). It wasn’t busy at all and they just ask for a $5 donation per person. On our way back down, we heard a pianist and a violinist rehearsing in the church and stopped in for what felt like a private concert for just the four of us — an unexpectedly magical moment in the midst of what’s been a pretty tough couple of weeks. Another future addition to my Nantucket guide for sure!
