THE BEST PLACES TO SEE HYDRANGEAS ON NANTUCKET

One of my most frequently asked questions this time of year is about the best places to see hydrangeas on Nantucket and I decided to put together a blog post so my answers have a more permanent home than individual DMs! I always think of the first two weeks of July as the best time to see hydrangeas on Nantucket so hopefully these recommendations are timely for anyone planning a visit in the next couple weeks! And if you need more recommendations on where to go, where to eat, where to stay, or what to do while you’re here, I hope my Nantucket guide will come in handy!

P.S. Many of the photographs below are available as framed prints in the Etsy shop I run with my brother Camden if you see something you love! This print is currently hanging in our bedroom at my parents’ home on the island and I love it as much as the day I snapped the picture!

1. This hydrangea driveway is located on Lincoln Avenue, just to the left of the entrance to Steps Beach. It seems to bloom extraordinarily well in some years and not so much in others, but if you happen to catch it in an “on” year, it’s truly breathtaking!

2. If you’re staying in town (or just visiting for the day!), Old North Wharf is easily one of the best places to see hydrangeas on Nantucket and conveniently located in the heart of town, walking distance from most hotels, restaurants, and shopping. If you time your visit in the first week of July, you’ll usually catch the overlap of both climbing roses and hydrangeas in bloom at the same time!

3. A quick walk from Main Street will take you to the intersection of Orange Street and Plumb Lane, where an extra vibrant display of hydrangeas lines a fence along the corner.

4. The Cliff Road neighborhood features both some of the island’s most beautiful homes and many of the best places to see hydrangeas on Nantucket. If you wander from Main Street down Centre Street to get to Cliff Road, you can do even more hydrangea spotting along the way! The sea of blue hydrangeas above is at Cliff Lodge located at 9 Cliff Road.

5. Under the ‘Sconset Bridge. Siasconset is perhaps better known for its rose-covered cottages and the stunning homes along the Bluff Walk, but there’s a beautiful display of mostly blue hydrangeas beneath the ‘Sconset Bridge as you walk toward ‘Sconset Beach that I’ve noticed tend to bloom a little later in the season than the spots above!
