GIFTS FOR A NEW MOM

If you’re a new mom or have a new mom in your life, you know that welcoming a new little one is just a completely all-consuming phase. There are so many resources for putting together a baby registry (you can see my thoughts here!), but I often find it just as difficult to pinpoint my own wants and needs in the postpartum phase as it is to address the wants and needs of my little one(s). Below I rounded up a few items that helped make me feel a little bit more comfortable in my (new and different) skin or that offered everyday upgrades to my (new and different) routine. I hope this will help you narrow down gift ideas for a new mom in your life, whether it’s you or someone you love!

I know I’m a broken record about my love for the nap dress, but when you’ve had three babies in three years and find a dress style that makes you feel pretty whether you’re pregnant, nursing, or neither, you want to shout it from the rooftops! I wish I’d had this navy Ellie nap dress after my first pregnancy when I felt like the only thing that fit me were baggy sweatshirts and pajamas, but it’s earned a forever home in my closet after my two subsequent births. Cannot recommend more highly for a new mom looking for something to wear in front of postpartum visitors, at home on Christmas Day, for newborn photos, the list goes on…!

One other quick thought, though I could brainstorm on this subject all day: I have cherished snuggling our babies in our family favorite Pottery Barn throw, which is hands down the softest thing you’ll ever own and which my mom has repeatedly given as gifts to all her children’s significant others as sort of a nod to them joining our family. Our two- and four-year-olds now often request to sleep with one in their beds and I think it’s probably about the closest you can get to a home run gift for all ages, and perhaps particularly so for a new mom who has a very special new reason to cozy up at home. 🙂

P.S. If you’re looking for other ways to support a new mom in your life, my friend Joni is offering $10 off her 1:1 postpartum coaching sessions with code MACKENZIE. I haven’t participated personally but Joni has a heart of gold and I imagine would have been a welcome support particularly in my first postpartum experience a few years back!
