Somehow we’re coming up on six years living in this house and while we’ve done the bulk of the renovations we intend to do, there are still lots of smaller scale decorating updates I want to make! Our primary bedroom has been through several different half-baked iterations and I’m finally content with the overall look and feel. It’s on the smaller side for a primary bedroom at 12′ x 15′ (it was even smaller before we moved the walls the summer we moved in!) and I wouldn’t say it’s ideal to have our bed in front of the one window in the room, but I think it still manages to feel light and bright and serene and I thought I’d share some updated photos with you today!

I framed the window behind our bed with a custom valance and matching curtains to give it a more intentional look. You can barely see our bed in any of these photos but it’s a Serena & Lily style (that’s sadly no longer available on their site) that I chose for its low headboard since I knew we’d be placing it in front of a window. This bed has a similar profile if you’re in the same decorating dilemma!

None of the bedrooms in our 1850 home had any overhead lighting when we moved in so that’s something we’ve chipped away at as we’ve furnished each space. In our bedroom we added this plaster chandelier and this ceiling medallion, both of which I think look like they could have been here for many years before we moved in!

We added the trim in here last year and I think it helps elevate this small space and makes it feel distinct from the kids’ bedrooms on the same floor. I bought these Dana Gibson chinoiserie panels initially thinking they might go behind our bedside tables, but the lamps blocked a lot of the detail and I prefer them on this wall framing the doorway to our closet. A quick note on the panels — I ordered directly from the artist’s website and the frames arrived almost orange-y copper so I painted them this more pale gold to look more like the photos on the website. I would recommend ordering the more simple framed version here unless you want to embark on a similar DIY fix — just a heads up if you plan to order! Time to cross #66 off my 101 in 1001 list. 🙂

We’ve had the same bedside tables since we lived in Dallas in 2015 and the same raffia dresser since around 2018? The raffia dresser hasn’t worn perfectly (there are dark spots where I’m guessing there is glue between the raffia and the wood?) but Serena & Lily seems to have come out with an updated version that hopefully holds up better over time — I still love the warmth and texture it brings in!
The crystal balustrade lamps on the dresser were an incredibly lucky Facebook Marketplace find — they retail for $999 each and I paid $400 for the pair! The oversized print above the dresser is also by Dana Gibson and available here. It reminds me of our trip to France for Will’s 30th birthday and I absolutely love the colors — I know it’s a piece we will have in our home forever!
