After trying on 36 pairs of jeans and 19 pairs of white jeans earlier this spring, I knew it was time to tackle one of the trickiest things for moms to shop for: finding the perfect swimsuit.
Swimsuit shopping is kind of a drag no matter what season of life you’re in, but if you’re a new mom or a mom of multiples, you know finding a flattering swimsuit can be an extra daunting task. So I ordered 25 of what looked like the best one-piece swimsuits, from lots of different brands and all different price points, and honestly found a decent number with a flattering fit that I think would work for a variety of body types.
As a mom of four, my time at the beach or pool involves more chasing than lounging, so full coverage and built-in support are imperative. At the end of the day there’s nothing worse than wrangling a bunch of kids on the beach in an uncomfortable bathing suit and I hope this helps you find one or two classic styles with the perfect fit for you!
My 6 favorite one-piece swimsuits
1. Stylest puff sleeve zip swimsuit
I’ve actually had this one-piece swimsuit for a few years now, and it’s such a great choice if you’re focused on sun protection. The puff sleeves are fun and flattering and the zipper down the front makes it one of my top picks if you’re nursing this summer. It has a snug fit and the most compression of any swimsuit I tried, so I recommend ordering a size up!
Wearing size S. Use code MACKENZIE15 for 15% off!
2 & 3. J.Crew Factory strapless seersucker one-piece swimsuit
I originally bought this in the blue gingham and loved it so much I immediately placed an order for the pink as well. This is easily one of the best swimsuits I found at an under $100 price point — the ruched seersucker fabric is forgiving, with a removable strap and full coverage in the back.
Wearing size XS.
4. J.Crew Factory one-shoulder bow one-piece swimsuit
This under $100 bow shoulder swimsuit is such a classic look, and it has built-in support so it almost passes as a top when you wear it with denim shorts or linen pants. The ruched front and full coverage make it one of my top picks.
Wearing size XS.
5. Trina Turk Monaco off-the-shoulder ruffle one-piece swimsuit
I think an off-the-shoulder swimsuit is unexpectedly chic and this one is really flattering on. It comes in a variety of colors if white isn’t your favorite!
Wearing size 4.
6. La Blanca Island Goddess shirred side one-piece swimsuit
I was blown away by this suit — this brand and style are best sellers for good reason. This fits and feels like a $300 swimsuit but is available on Amazon for under $100. If you’re looking for a truly classic one-piece with adjustable straps and removable cups, this is a really great choice.
Wearing size 4.

7. Minnow blush gingham balconette one-piece swimsuit
I have several one-piece swimsuits that I love from Minnow, and this pink gingham balconette style is so girly and fun. I just think I need to order the next size up for a more flattering fit as even with the adjustable straps, it’s still pretty snug. I think it could be a really flattering fit as long as you size up!
Wearing size XS — should have gotten the S.
8 & 9. Andie Mykonos long torso one-piece swimsuit
This is the one-piece swimsuit I wish I’d had postpartum. It’s such a classic look with full coverage in the back and a very nursing-friendly low front. I will say my rather deflated post-breastfeeding chest didn’t quite fill out my regular size which is the only reason I returned it, but I would have killed for this style last summer when I was still nursing!
Ordered size XS in both white and navy.
10. Kate Spade solid ruffle one-piece swimsuit
I love the look of an off-the-shoulder swimsuit, and this one is a more playful take on the classic Trina Turk style above that I wound up keeping. And you can’t beat the navy and hydrangea blue color combo!
Ordered size S.
11. Polo Ralph Lauren navy one-piece swimsuit
I tried on several Polo Ralph Lauren swimsuits and this was the only one I was tempted to keep. It’s in a great terry material that differentiates it from other navy swimsuits and the belt and low back give it a really flattering fit, but ultimately I decided it wasn’t quite the full coverage back I feel most comfortable in.
Ordered size S.
12. La Blanca Island Goddess shirred side one-piece swimsuit (rose pink)
The same swimsuit as the navy style I wound up keeping — I thought this rose pink color was fun and actually pretty flattering with a tan, but I wound up keeping the navy as I knew it’s a more classic look I will have, love and wear forever. But I could definitely see preferring this as a fun color for a vacation, and again the fit is just a 10 out of 10 for the price!
Ordered size 4.
5 more one-piece swimsuits worth considering
13. Kate Spade Tidal Stripe triple tie one-piece swimsuit — I liked this one but the pale blue made me look washed out. Cute seersucker fabric and bow front. Higher cut in the front but full coverage in the back and adjustable straps.
14. Jessie Zhao Blue Garden reversible one-piece swimsuit — This actually fit quite well and had the full coverage I like in the back, but I just find prints less versatile for me in general (although at least this one is reversible!).
15. Palmacea Mare one-piece swimsuit — I was so close to talking myself into this one because hello, those pearl straps! So cute in person but the leg is just too high cut and the back too cheeky for me.
16. Beach Riot Sydney belted one-piece swimsuit — I love the bow shoulder and belt detail so much, but the back was too cheeky for me. This shade of pink is also very bright (almost neon) so I would choose a different color and order a size up.
17. Trina Turk Monaco off-the-shoulder one-piece swimsuit (navy) — I kept this in the white above but found the navy shade a little more royal blue than I prefer. Love the style, just not this color.
8 one-piece swimsuits that didn’t work for me at all
18. Hunza G Tyra cornflower rashguard — Adorable as a concept (and the perfect shade of blue!) but so tight across the chest. It completely flattened my chest when I zipped it up. It might work if you size up and plan to wear it slightly unzipped!
19. La Blanca high neck keyhole Island Goddess one-piece swimsuit — This might be more flattering on someone with a bigger chest but it felt like a lot of fabric on me and I didn’t love all the straps on the back.
20. Polo Ralph Lauren stripe scoop one-piece swimsuit — I loved the fabric on this but the leg is extremely high cut and the back is even cheekier than it looks on the model.
21. Polo Ralph Lauren collar terry one-piece swimsuit — Great terry material but the sides are pretty low-cut for a family beach day.
22. Kate Spade solid shirred bow shoulder one-piece swimsuit — I had high hopes for this one but the front ruching with the double seams is too much fabric to be flattering. I wish the front looked more like the back!
23. J.Crew Factory seersucker gingham ruched one-piece swimsuit — I found this ran small and much preferred the fit of the two gingham J.Crew Factory swimsuits above.
24. Milly strapless belted one-piece swimsuit — A swimsuit at this price point should be perfection, but this one had too much fabric in the chest and crotch and too little in the back.
25. Onia Soleil tie front one-piece swimsuit — A really short torso (even on me at 5’1!) with a high leg and cheeky back.
