OUR HALL BATHROOM REVEAL

I can’t believe it’s been five years since we renovated our hall bathroom! It’s still one of the renovation projects I get asked about most (and frankly, one of my favorites!) so I thought I’d share all of the details in once place.

This project was one of our big goals for 2021, and was part of our larger home renovation project following the purchase of our home in 2019. You can see before photos and plans for the space here and progress posts here, here, and here. We kept the layout in here exactly the same as it was but replaced all the fixtures and tile, installed a new vanity, and added wallpaper. The finished product is so much lighter and brighter and it makes me so happy to see this space right when we walk up the stairs and to bathe our four boys in here each night!

It’s amazing how much brighter the bathroom feels without all the beige and mauve tile everywhere! I’m a big fan of keeping it simple when it comes to tile — we used the same white subway tile when we renovated our kitchen and I love it because it’s classic, practical, and super affordable. The subway tile runs to the ceiling in the shower and then three feet up the wall in the rest of the bathroom with a chair rail tile and this wallpaper above. I was encouraged to use tile near the commode as our family continues to potty train and clean-up becomes necessary. With the swipe of a soapy sponge, we can tidy this area in a flash. I’ll share and link lots more details throughout the post!

Our contractor built our two sink vanity in the same cabinetry style we used in our kitchen and our closet. I had hoped to buy an existing bathroom vanity, but the dimensions for this space called for custom. It’s so nice to have drawers in here instead of just cabinets! The countertop is a Hanstone quartz in Royale Blanc ordered locally through Ideal Tile and the sinkshandles, and spouts (in polished nickel) are Kohler ordered locally through Plimpton & Hills. For a full bathroom (compared to our powder room, for instance) I found it helpful to order through a local showroom as there were various plumbing parts that I wouldn’t have known to source online myself. I’ve linked what I could find online at the end of the post if you’re more of a DIY-er! The mirrors were a budget-friendly find — I love an architecturally shaped mirror!

The ceiling fixture and double sconce are both Visual Comfort — their lighting fixtures are stunning in person and very much worth the splurge in my opinion (see more of my Visual Comfort favorites here)! The semi-flush lantern is the first thing you see as you climb the stairs and it makes me happy every time I see it. I swapped out the plain shades on the wall sconce for scalloped raffia shades that add a playful touch to a space that will primarily be used by our little ones. I ordered the shades from this Etsy shop. They come in and out of stock so I would email the site’s owner if they appear to be out of stock!

If you’re shopping for new bath towels, Weezie is the best of the best. These are the piped edge bath towels and hand towels with a matching French blue monogram and the kids’ hooded towels with light blue piping and the boys’ names in French blue script. They’re the fluffiest towels we’ve ever owned and hold up beautifully in the wash — highly recommend!

I played around with a few ideas on artwork for this bathroom and decided to keep it pretty simple since the wallpaper makes a pretty big statement on its own. I had framed these two needlepoint canvases I stitched over the course of quarantine in 2020 and thought the mat color was perfect with the wallpaper. Meant to be! You can find the two canvases here and here.

bathroom linen closet with Baldwin Estate 1-1:4 Inch Round Cabinet Knobs

I love having this linen closet in the bathroom to store extra bedding, towels, and “backstock” toiletries. We had new doors made to match the style of the vanity and used polished nickel ball knobs on both. Here’s how I ended up organizing the linen closet!

home depot bali natural woven wood shade and brunschwig & fils les touches wallpaper in bathroom

I ordered custom sized woven shades for a few rooms in our house and found the same brand that Pottery Barn carries at a lower price through Home Depot. We found a swatch book at our local store on one of our many weekend trips there and went with the inside mount in “Antigua Tiki” if anyone’s searching for something similar!

You can see a bit of the penny tile on the floor here. The subway tile on the walls are grouted in Mapei avalanche (bright white) and the penny tile on the floor are grouted in Mapei frost (one shade darker/more gray than white).

I think that’s just about everything but if there’s anything I missed, feel free to ask in the comments!
