Today’s post is all about my personal favorite day of our Italy trip: our day trip to Capri! This was the day I think I’ll remember best about this trip — I’ve had so many people tell me we’re crazy for traveling internationally with two toddlers while I’m pregnant (and I totally get it; it’s not how I would have planned it in a vacuum, but we really saw it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a bucket list trip with my parents and family that honestly may never happen quite this way again!) and this was really the day of our trip that made all the obstacles worth it.
Floating on a pool noodle off the coast of Capri with 15-month-old Peter while pregnant with his little brother was the stuff dreams are made of and it’s a moment and a memory I truly hope I remember until the end of my days. ?

BOAT CHARTER IN CAPRI
We took the ferry from Sorrento to Capri before chartering a small boat through Gianni’s Boats to take us around the island and we all agreed spending the day on the water was the perfect way to beat the heat and keep the kids both cool and entertained (not to mention all three of them fell asleep on the boat for a bit. Which was way more successful than trying to get them to nap in strollers on the go!).
We got to visit the Blue Grotto and our captain Marco was incredible about scouting out lots of small coves with calm water and few other boats where we could jump off the boat and swim for a bit.
My brother Camden essentially climbed a mountain to snap the last two photos!
LUNCH AT LA FONTELINA
After spending the morning on the boat, we took a taxi bus from the main port to Marina Piccola where we hopped on La Fontelina’s boat for a late lunch. My cousin’s husband had made reservations well in advance of our trip and it was every bit as beautiful as every Instagram photo I’ve saved of it over the years — I’m so happy he found a way to make it happen! After lunch we were all exhausted by the thought of climbing a bunch of stairs with the kids and getting back on a bus. So one of the managers at La Fontelina kindly helped us book a boat that took us directly back to the main port, where we met the ferry back to Sorrento.
I heard from a few people on Instagram who talked about having to walk down a million stairs to get to La Fontelina which I can’t imagine doing with kids on a really hot day. So I’d say it’s definitely worth inquiring about their boat service when you make a reservation, particularly if you’re going with a big group or on a special occasion like your honeymoon!
Side note: this is my second time taking a day trip to Capri (the first was with Will in 2015 when we stayed a few nights in Positano) and I would love to go back someday and stay at one of the hotels on the island to have more than a few hours to soak it all in. Would love to hear your favorite spots if you’ve done a longer stay there!
