After adding applied trim (and wallpaper!) to our dining room, we fell in love with the architectural interest it brought to the space and wanted to continue the same look into our foyer, stairwell, and upstairs hallway.
Deciding to outsource vs. DIY
While applied trim is definitely a project you could tackle at home, it wasn’t something I (and, let’s be honest, my dad!) had the bandwidth to tackle at the moment, especially as it would be my dad’s first time doing trim at the various angles the stairwell would require. So for this project, we decided to outsource and I thought I’d share the cost below as I think any kind of wood trim can have a completely transformative impact at a relatively affordable price point.
We also had wood paneling on one wall in our foyer and one wall in our upstairs hallway, so we had those sheetrocked and painted as part of this project. I love the more uniform look!
Cost of applied trim in foyer, stairwell, and hallway
In terms of cost, we paid $1,933 for labor and materials for the applied trim in the foyer, stairwell, and hallway and $600 for the sheetrock in the foyer and hallway. These costs include having everything painted to match the rest of the walls and trim (which are Behr Ultra Pure White throughout the house!).
Finding a carpenter and painter in Fairfield County
Hector has painted and installed wallpaper in several rooms in our home and we loved working with him again on this project. You can find his contact information in the home resources section of my Fairfield County guide!
