HANGING A PLATE WALL ABOVE OUR FIREPLACE

After we framed and hung my great-grandfather’s painting of Nantucket in our dining room, I knew I would want to take down the antique Nantucket map hanging above the fireplace in our living room since they depict the same outline of the island and one room leads into the other. (I would never part with the antique map, but maybe it belongs in my parents’ Nantucket house for the time being!) I started thinking about artwork I’d like to hang there instead but kept coming back to the idea of a plate wall that would create a vibrant focal point that’s visible from both our front door and our dining room (and in the reflection of the mirror above our sofa if you’re standing in the playroom!).

I spent months mocking up different plate combinations on my computer before I ever ordered anything and kept tinkering with it off and on until I finally landed on this assortment and knew this was it. God bless my dad for hanging each of these plates despite running into brick and plaster and all the other joys of living in an old house. 🙂 I could not be happier with how it turned out!
